Overview:
The World Lupus Day is globally observed every year on May 10th; to raise awareness about the disease, its devastating effects on patients worldwide, its causes, early diagnosis, and treatment; to improve health care services for patients.
Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that leads to inflammation of various body tissues. It can affect any part of the body, which makes it serious. Early diagnosis is important after the onset of symptoms to prevent internal organs (e.g. Kidneys) from being affected. Medical interventions and lifestyle changes can help control the symptoms.
Facts:
Autoimmune diseases occur when the body's immune system attacks its own tissues; however, the cause is unknown, but is thought to be linked to environmental, genetic and hormonal factors. People who have a genetic predisposition to lupus may develop the disease when stimuli appear, including:
- Sun.
- Some medicines (e.g. Hypertension medications, antiepileptic drugs and antibiotics).
- Infection.
Objectives:
- Clarify and make lupus visible using the power of social media; Let's show the world the many faces of lupus symptoms, complications, and prevention.
- Knowing the rights of people suffering from the disease, and providing them with services.
- Risk factors:
- Gender, as it is more common among women.
- Age, although it can affect all ages, lupus is usually detected among people aged 15 - 45 years.
- Family history.
- Psychological stress.
- Physical exhaustion.
