Health Days 2023

World Autism Awareness Day

Overview:
Autism spectrum disorder is a developmental disorder, which affects communication and behavior, and causes social challenges.

There is often nothing that distinguishes people with autism from others, but the way they communicate, interact, behave, and learn may be different from others. Their learning, thinking, and problem-solving abilities ranged. There are gifted people and others with severe challenges; this leads to their need for assistance in daily living activities more than others.

Objectives:
  • Raising awareness about the autism spectrum and its symptoms.
  • Enhancing the role of people with autism in society and increasing their acceptance of it.
  • Highlighting the need for assistance and improving the quality of life of the injured.
  • Support for people with autism and their families.

Facts:

  • One out of every 160 children suffer from autism spectrum disorder.
  • Autism spectrum disorders appear in childhood, but they tend to continue into adolescence and adulthood.
  • Evidence-based psychosocial interventions, such as behavioral therapy activities, can reduce difficulties in communication and social behavior, and have positive impacts on well-being and quality of life.
