Introduction:
World Alzheimer's Day is held each year to raise awareness about the challenges and hardships faced by Alzheimer's patients and their families. The event calls on exerting intensive efforts to enhance healthcare and to support both patients and their families. According to Alzheimer’s Association, there are an estimated 46 million people worldwide living with dementia. By 2050, more than 13,150,000 people will be afflicted (someone in the world develops dementia every 3 seconds).
Facts:
Alzheimer's is the most common form of dementia, and is not a normal part of aging.
Not every memory loss is Alzheimer's disease. Alzheimer’s disease involves impairment of cognitive, speech and memory areas, which is riskier than forgetfulness.
Women have a higher risk.
35% of dementia healthcare providers face a considerable deterioration of their health.
Education can lower your risk.
Heart disease can raise your risk of getting Alzheimer's.
