International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking
The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is marked every year on June 26. It was first set by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in 1987. In fact, drug abuse and addiction are reckoned of the most dangerous psychological and social problems, which have negative repercussions on the physical and psychological health of individuals, as well as on their financial stance. According to statistics from Al-Amal Complexes and Hospitals in Saudi Arabia, 40.000 patients, 20% of whom are teenagers, visited addiction clinics over the past year.

Objectives and General Messages:
  • Raising social awareness regarding the problems of drugs, i.e. their health, social, psychological and economic bad impacts, as well as placing more emphasis on the link between drug addiction and health deterioration. 
  • Increasing awareness among community members concerning drug trafficking and its negative impacts on the society.
  • Bolstering cooperation among the relevant organizations against drug addicting, using and trafficking.
  • Empowering the society to combat drug addiction in all the state's sectors.

Internationally Approved Date: June 26th, 2015.
Locally Approved Date: Ramadan 9th, 1436.
