World Tuberculosis Day
World Tuberculosis Day is celebrated on March 24 of every year to raise public awareness about the devastating health, social, and economic consequences of tuberculosis (TB), and to intensify efforts to eliminate the global tuberculosis (TB) epidemic. This date marks the day in 1882 when Dr. Robert Koch announced that he had discovered the bacteria that causes tuberculosis (TB), opening the way for the diagnosis and treatment of this disease.

  • 9,900,000 people were infected with tuberculosis in 2020.
  • 66,000,000 lives have been saved since 2000 through global efforts to end tuberculosis.
  • Tuberculosis is one of the deadliest infectious diseases in the world.
  • Every day more than 4,100 people lose their lives due to tuberculosis.
