Overview:
The Gulf Health Council launched Gulf Cancer Awareness Week during the period from Feb. 1st to Feb. 7th to raise awareness of cancer. The year 2024 focuses on the slogan “We are with you” in solidarity with cancer patients and their families.
The Council also aims to increase awareness of early screening for cancerous tumors, as it helps increase the chance of recovery therefrom.
Facts:
The Gulf Health Council explained that conducting a preventive CT scan after the age of 50 to 80 years if the person is a heavy smoker, is considered one of the ways to prevent lung cancer. The Council also confirmed that performing mammography helps in the early diagnosis of breast cancer, which is considered the most common type among Gulf women, and increases the recovery rate by approximately 98%. It added that colorectal cancer is the most common among men in the Gulf, and periodic screening of people most at risk of contracting it is considered one of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of contracting it.
