Health Days 2023

World Blood Cancer Awareness Month

There are four main types of leukemia that differ according to treatment methods and extent of its respond to treatment:
  1. Acute myeloid leukemia.
  2. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
  3. Chronic myeloid leukemia.
  4. Chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
Scientists do not yet know what are the real causes of leukemia, but it seems that it is generated and developed as a result of a combination of several genetic factors and environmental factors together, but cancer itself is not inherited.
  • Motivate community members to donate blood stem cells.
  • Educate community about the disease and identifying it.
The following factors may increase the risk of developing leukemia:
  • Exposure to high-energy radiation from an atomic bomb or a nuclear power plant
  • Exposure to chemicals such as benzene or formaldehyde.
  • Blood disorders.
  • Exposure to chemotherapy or radiation.
  • Genetic disorders such as Down syndrome.
  • Some types of viruses may cause tumors, such as hepatitis B, as well as the AIDS virus.
  • A family member has had leukemia previously, but this is rare.
