Overview:
Anxiety disorders are characterized by excessive fear, stress and related behavioral disturbances. Symptoms are severe enough to cause significant distress or significant impairment in functioning. There are several different types of anxiety disorders, such as: generalized anxiety disorder (characterized by excessive worrying), panic disorder (characterized by panic attacks), social anxiety disorder (characterized by excessive fear and anxiety in social situations), and separation anxiety disorder (characterized by excessive fear or anxiety about separation from those individuals with whom they have a deep romantic relationship), and others. There is effective psychotherapy, and depending on the age and severity, treatment may also be considered.

Facts:
- In 2019, there were 301 million people living with an anxiety disorder, including 58 million children and adolescents
- An estimated 275 million people suffer from anxiety disorders. This represents about 4% of the world's population, with a prevalence of between 2.5% and 6.5% of the population per country. About 62% of those suffering from anxiety are females (170 million) compared to 105 million males.
