Overview:
Throughout the month of April, the International Parkinson’s, and Movement Disorders Society (MDS) aims to raise awareness about Parkinson's disease; To disseminate knowledge and promote research to positively impact patient care.
Objectives:
- To spread knowledge about Parkinson's disease.
- To promote research into its causes, prevention, and treatment
- To positively influence the care of patients who suffer from it by providing advice and guidance to them.
Facts:
- People with Parkinson's disease don't have enough of the chemical dopamine because some of the nerve cells that make it have died.
- Then symptoms begin to appear when the brain cannot produce enough dopamine to properly control movement.
- There are three main symptoms: tremor, slowness of movement, and sclerosis.
