Overview

Using veneers is one of the ways to improve the look and color of your teeth. It is often an irreversible procedure because it requires removing a layer of enamel for the veneers to fit the surface of the tooth.
What are veneers?
Dental veneers are thin shells often made from porcelain, or cosmetic fillings, or others. Veneers are placed over the front (visible) part of the tooth. Despite its thinness, it becomes very strong and durable after application.
Application procedures:
Applying veneers requires a few sessions. First, a dental impression is taken. This happens by removing a thin layer of enamel to avoid increasing the size of the tooth after veneers are applied, then the impression is sent to the lab for the veneers to be made in the right size. On the second session, the dentist will apply them to the teeth to see if the patient is comfortable with them. Then, they get bonded to the teeth.
Uses of veneers:
Close gaps between teeth.
Improve the color of (all or some) teeth.
Improve the shape of teeth.
Correct fractures or erosions.
Contraindications of veneers:
  • In the case of the enamel layer erosion, as the dentin layer or root becomes exposed.
  • Lack of dental hygiene.
  • Habits that cause teeth erosion (e.g. teeth grinding)
  • Crowded teeth
Veneers are not recommended for one row of teeth if the jaw is perfectly aligned.
How long do veneers last?
On average, veneers last 7-14 years with proper dental care. If fractures happen, your veneers will need to be fixed or replaced.
How to maintain your veneers?
  • Your dentist may recommend that you stop consuming certain foods or beverages which can affect the color of your teeth, like tea and coffee. tea and coffee);
  • Use a high-quality toothbrush and change it regularly.
  • Keep your mouth and teeth extremely clean.
  • Visit your dentist for regular check-ups to have your teeth cleaned from plaque.
  • Stop smoking.
Remember: Having great and beautiful teeth does not mean you should stop looking after you dental and oral hygiene!
FAQ
Is applying veneers painful? Does it require anesthesia?
In most cases, applying veneers does not require anesthesia, because the procedure is done only on the outer layer of your teeth, which is not painful. However, if you feel discomfort, anesthesia is an option.
