Overview:

  • Lung cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in the world, and is celebrated in November every year, to educate about lung cancer and raise awareness.
  • Some risk factors increase the likelihood of developing lung cancer, such as: smoking, or exposure to passive smoking.

Facts:

  • Lung cancer is the primary cause of cancer deaths worldwide and represents the highest death rates among both men and women.
  • Smoking is the leading cause of lung cancer, causing about 85% of all cases.
  • It ranks ninth in the Kingdom compared to other types of cancer.
  • Screening individuals at high risk can allow for early detection of the disease, and significantly improve survival rates.
  • Primary prevention (such as tobacco control measures and reducing exposure to environmental risk factors) can reduce lung cancer rates and save lives.

Objectives:

  • Raising awareness of risk factors which increase the likelihood of developing lung cancer.
  • Raising awareness of lung cancer symptoms.
  • Raising awareness about the importance of early detection of lung cancer.
  • Encouraging people with symptoms to get tested and diagnosed early.
