World Blood Donor Day

Overview 

Every year, countries around the world celebrate World Blood Donor Day, which falls on June 14th. Blood transfusion helps save millions of lives every year and provides support for complex medical and surgical procedures. This process also plays an essential role in saving the lives of mothers and children in their care.

Objectives:
  • Thank those who voluntarily donated blood without compensation for their donated blood as a gift to save lives.
  • Raise awareness of the need to regularly donate blood throughout the year.

Facts:
  • About 12,700 blood donation centers in 170 countries reported collecting 100 million donations.
  • The first World Blood Donor Day was established in 2005.
  • The Saudis ranked first in the world out of 28 countries, in terms of demand for blood donation, at 58%, in a study conducted by the British Ipsos & Murray Foundation.
