Cancer is a leading cause of death around the world, according to WHO, which estimates that 84 million people will die of cancer between 2005 and 2015 without intervention. Low-income and medium-income countries are harder hit by cancer than the high-resource countries.Each year on 4 February, WHO supports International Union Against Cancer to promote ways to ease the global burden of cancer.

On September 21, 2011, the world is to celebrate the "World Alzheimer's Day", under the theme: (Faces of Dementia). Its main purpose is to be identified with the hardships and challenges of the dementia disease (Alzheimer), and shed light on it, as well as the suffering of its victims around the world. It also calls for exerting every effort and working unremittingly, in order to enhance health care and increased support for Alzheimer's patients and their families.

The World Hypertension Day is celebrated every year on May 17th, with the aim to find out the number of cases, and reduce the incidence of arterial hypertension amidst people. According to the National Survey conducted by the Ministry of Health (MOH) on a random sample (form 15 to 64 years), hypertension increased by 21.1% (24.1% in males, and 18.3% in females).

World Thalassemia Day

The World Thalassaemia Day is celebrated on 8 May. This year's day is held under the them: “Patients Rights – Revisited”. It is intended to give rise to patients' rights, and facilitate their access to health services. The Ministry of Health (MOH) has organized an awareness campaign meant to familiarize patients, their families and the public with the nature of this disease, how to live with it, and how to avoid it. Within this framework, the MOH has obligated all couples about to marry to undergo premarital examinations, seeking to protect the coming generations against genetic disorders, including thalassaemia.
