Epileptic seizures during the day in Ramadan:
When does a person need emergency medical care, and when to call emergency services?
- If the person is experiencing seizures for the first time.
- If the person has difficulty breathing or waking up after the seizure.
- If the seizure lasts more than 5 minutes.
- If the person has a second seizure shortly after the first seizure.
- If the person is injured during the seizure.
- If the person has a seizure while in the water.
- If the person suffers from a health condition, such as diabetes or heart disease, or is pregnant.
First aid in case of seizures:
- Lay the patient on the ground.
- Gently place the patient on one side to help him breathe.
- Secure the area around the patient.
- Place something soft under the patient’s head, such as a jacket, or other.
- Remove glasses from the patient’s face and unbutton his shirt and tie.
- It is necessary to call emergency services if the seizure lasts more than five minutes.
Things to avoid:
- Trying to stop the patient's movements during the seizure.
- Putting any object in the patient’s mouth, as this can injure his jaw or damage his teeth.
- Performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation, as the patient will start breathing on his own after the seizure.
- Offering food or water until you are sure that the patient has fully recovered.
