The World Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Day is organized by the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD), in collaboration with the health care professionals. It is not a single disease, but a general term for a number of chronic lung diseases which obstruct the airflow in the lungs.
COPD Key Facts:
In 2012, 6% of deaths all over the world were because of COPD.
90% of COPD- related deaths occur in low and middle-income countries.
The primary cause of COPD is exposure to tobacco smoke (either active or passive smoking).
The disease now affects men and women almost equally; due to some reasons, including the increase of smoking among women especially in the high-income countries.
Although, COPD is an incurable disease, the treatment can prevent its progression.

Promoting the health care level for COPD patients all over the world.
Raising awareness about smoking risks and complications.
