Health Guidelines before Hajj and Umrah
Before the pilgrim goes to perform Hajj or Umrah in the holy places, he must pay attention to some instructions:
  • Take and complete necessary vaccinations according to what is required, whether it is internal or external pilgrims, especially those with chronic diseases and the elderly.
  • Restore physical fitness before going on Hajj to perform the rituals without excessive stress or fatigue.
  • Ensure taking a sufficient amount of medication, especially if he suffers from a disease that requires taking medications on an ongoing basis (such as: heart disease, high blood pressure, kidney disease, asthma, allergies, and diabetes).
  • Prepare a method for preserving medicines according to its types so that they are not damaged during travel and transportation between rituals.
  • If the pilgrim suffers from one of the chronic diseases (such as: diabetes, heart disease, etc.), he should wear an identification bracelet indicating his case to facilitate dealing with his medical condition in an emergency.
  • Bring a sufficient number of clothes; Where it is preferable to change clothes frequently and always keep them clean.
  • Make sure to choose wide, loose, light-colored and cotton clothes so as not to allow excessive sweating.
  • Ensure to carry a detailed report showing diseases, medications and doses.
  • Ensure that the bag contains personal items such as cleaning materials necessary for the body, such as a towel, shaving tools, soap, toothpaste and brushes, an umbrella (of a light color), loose cotton clothes, and moisturizing creams or ointments.
  • Ensure that his medical bag contains wound sterilization tools, fever-reducing medicine, pain reliever, hand sanitizer, and masks.
  • Make sure to bring a blood glucose meter if he suffers from diabetes.
  • While sitting for a long time on the plane, it is recommended to walk and move for a short period of time every hour or two. You can also try to move leg muscles to stimulate blood circulation. This helps prevent swollen feet.
  • Make sure to chew gum while boarding and landing the plane; To avoid ear pain caused by pressure imbalance.
  • Avoid walking for long distances carrying heavy objects, especially during the day and at high temperatures.
  • Ensure that you drink enough water throughout the rituals to avoid dehydration.
  • Wear a mask while performing the rituals, especially in crowded rituals, to avoid infection.
  • Keep washing hands well most of the times to avoid infection.
  • The pilgrim must see a doctor before traveling to ensure that his health is stable and that he is able to perform Hajj.
