Abstract
  • 95 female students were paralysed at St. Theresa School, Kenya.
  • Test results showed that the students did not suffer from any disease, and the Kenyan authorities confirmed that the main cause was “Hysteria”.
Overview:
October 2, 2023:
95 students at St. Theresa Erigi Girls High School in Musoli, Kenya, have suffered from a mysterious limb-paralysing disease. The female students have been taken to the hospital after they were infected with the disease that spread in the school.
The disease causes difficulty walking, paraplegia, convulsions, and loss of fluids, as shown in the published video, where the girls were unable to walk and showed symptoms of a limb- paralysing ailment and cramps.
The precise nature of this mysterious illness is still undeclared, but health authorities stated that blood and urine samples of the affected female students have been sent to Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) laboratories to determine the nature and origin of the disease, as well as to develop appropriate treatment protocols. A doctor at Ihogo Hospital also said, “Initial laboratory blood samples showed that the students had high levels of electrolytes, which means that their bodies were losing fluids.” The school has also been closed indefinitely.

October 11, 2023:
Tests on samples taken from infected students ruled out any infection. The education minister ‘Boniface’ confirmed that they did not suffer from any infection, and it was just a psychological issue. The Kenyan authorities indicated that the female students were victims of hysteria, and this indicates a psychological challenge that could have been driven by panic over the upcoming end-of-year exams.

Mass Hysteria:
Mass psychopathology is sometimes called mass hysteria or epidemic hysteria, and stress can affect the body in many ways. According to Robert Bartholomew, an American sociologist who specializes in mass hysteria, there are two main types of mass hysteria:
  1. Anxiety hysteria: caused by sudden, extreme stress within a close-knit group.
  2. Kinetic hysteria: caused by long-term anxiety with common signs including twitching, tremors, difficulty walking, uncontrollable laughter and crying, communication difficulties, and states of euphoria.
