The Heart Center at King Abdullah Medical City, a member of the Makkah Health Cluster, successfully saved the lives of a pilgrim from Somalia and another from Senegal after they suffered two critical cardiac conditions requiring urgent specialized intervention. The cases were managed as part of the advanced cardiac care services provided to pilgrims during the 1447H Hajj season.
The Cluster explained that the first patient, a Somali pilgrim, was diagnosed with multiple severe coronary artery blockages. He underwent emergency coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery, which was successfully performed. His condition stabilized, and he subsequently began an early cardiac rehabilitation program.
The second case involved a pilgrim from Senegal who presented with complete heart block and severe bradycardia. The medical team promptly implanted a permanent dual-chamber pacemaker, resulting in full stabilization without complications.
The Cluster added that both patients were provided with medical smartwatch technology to enable remote monitoring of their vital signs and cardiac status after discharge, supporting rapid response and continuity of care through advanced digital health solutions.
The Cluster noted that these successful interventions reflect the Heart Center’s readiness and the expertise of its medical teams in delivering advanced specialized cardiac care to pilgrims in accordance with the highest standards of quality and patient safety, supported by modern technologies and specialized medical expertise throughout the Hajj season.
