King Abdullah Medical City Saves Pilgrim from Acute Heart Attack

20 May 2026

The Heart Center at King Abdullah Medical City, a member of the Makkah Health Cluster, successfully saved the life of an Iraqi pilgrim and neuroscience physician after he suffered an acute heart attack that required emergency cardiac catheterization to restore blood flow to the heart and prevent serious damage to the heart muscle.
The medical city explained that the pilgrim arrived with severe cardiac symptoms. An electrocardiogram (ECG) confirmed an acute inferior wall myocardial infarction, prompting the interventional cardiology team to immediately activate the emergency response and transfer the patient directly to the cardiac catheterization laboratory.
Cardiac catheterization revealed a complete blockage in the right coronary artery. The medical team successfully reopened the artery and implanted a drug-eluting stent using intravascular imaging technology to ensure optimal stent expansion and positioning, enhancing treatment outcomes and accelerating recovery.
The medical city confirmed that blood flow was fully restored without any complications. The pilgrim made a successful recovery and was discharged in good health. His condition continues to be monitored remotely through smartwatch technology, enabling continuous tracking of his cardiac vital signs and supporting high-quality post-procedure care.
The pilgrim, who is also a physician, expressed his sincere gratitude for the rapid response, high-quality medical care, and compassionate treatment he received from the moment of his arrival until his recovery. He praised the Kingdom’s leadership for its outstanding services to pilgrims and commended the advanced medical capabilities and highly qualified healthcare professionals he encountered during his treatment.
King Abdullah Medical City continues to provide advanced specialized healthcare services to pilgrims through dedicated medical teams operating around the clock to manage critical cases and deliver life-saving interventions during the Hajj season, supported by the latest medical technologies and advanced digital solutions.
