MoH: Meningococcal Vaccine Mandatory for Hajj 1447H Workers

12 May 2026

The Ministry of Health (MoH) spokesperson, Abdulaziz Abdulbaqi, confirmed that receiving the meningococcal vaccine is a mandatory requirement for all personnel participating in the Hajj 1447H season before they begin their duties. The requirement is implemented in line with the directives of the Supreme Hajj Committee to strengthen disease prevention and limit the spread of infectious diseases in high-density gathering areas, while safeguarding the health of workers as a key priority of the healthcare system.

He explained that the vaccine helps protect against serious infections that may spread in crowded environments, enhances the safety of both workers and pilgrims, and reduces disease transmission, contributing to the protection of the wider community after the Hajj season. He added that the approved meningococcal vaccine remains valid for five years, meaning individuals vaccinated within this period are not required to receive another dose, provided they meet the approved health requirements.
He noted that completing the vaccination is a prerequisite for obtaining a work permit during Hajj and stressed the importance of receiving the vaccine at least ten days before starting work to ensure optimal protection. He also urged workers to receive the other recommended vaccines, particularly the seasonal influenza vaccine and the COVID-19 vaccine.
He added that individuals who have not received the updated COVID-19 vaccine targeting the latest variants, available since 2025, are advised to receive a booster dose to strengthen overall protection and enhance health preparedness during the Hajj season.
The spokesperson also noted that MoH has supported healthcare providers across the security, military, and university sectors in administering Hajj vaccinations to their staff at their workplaces. This initiative aims to facilitate access to preventive services, improve compliance with health requirements, and strengthen the readiness of healthcare personnel serving pilgrims.
He emphasized the importance of booking vaccination appointments through the Sehhaty app using the Adult Vaccination Clinic service to ensure timely access to the required vaccines.
He further explained that MoH began offering Hajj vaccination appointments to all prospective pilgrims in Sha’ban and has continued providing appointments throughout Ramadan and up to the present through the Sehhaty app and primary healthcare centers, enabling people to receive the required vaccines early.
