The Health Sector Transformation Program praised the statement issued by the Council of Ministers, chaired today by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister — may Allah protect him, commending the Kingdom’s leadership across the Eastern Mediterranean and North Africa Region with 16 WHO-accredited Healthy Cities.
The Program emphasized that this achievement reflects the Kingdom’s unwavering commitment to making human health the core of national development, and to embedding the principle of prevention in alignment with the objectives of both the Quality of Life Program and the Health Sector Transformation Program, which stem from Saudi Vision 2030.
This milestone highlights the great attention the Saudi leadership gives to health as a national priority, and its long-standing investment in people as the cornerstone of sustainable development. These efforts have directly contributed to raising life expectancy to 79 years, reducing chronic disease rates, and enhancing public health and well-being across the Kingdom.
The World Health Organization (WHO) accredited these cities after they met 80 international standards, covering areas such as environmental quality, healthcare services, community engagement, education, emergency response, and innovation aimed at improving human life.
The Healthy Cities Program is a pioneering national initiative that fosters collaboration among communities, government agencies, and the private sector to build cities that prioritize human health and quality of life, enabling citizens to live in sustainable, healthy environments throughout the Kingdom.
Through continued intersectoral cooperation, the Kingdom is working to expand the network of accredited Healthy Cities and strengthen their impact through innovative initiatives that raise community awareness and support the goals of the Health Sector Transformation Program and Vision 2030, building a Vibrant Society where everyone enjoys lasting health and well-being.
