Saudi Arabia Elected Vice-Chair of WHO Executive Board
30 May 2025

In a significant recognition of its growing role in global health, Saudi Arabia has been elected Vice-Chair of the Executive Board of the World Health Organization (WHO) during the board's 157th session, held recently at WHO headquarters in Geneva.

The Kingdom's election follows its appointment as a member of the Executive Board for the 2025–2028 term, a decision made during the 78th World Health Assembly, which concluded earlier this week.

Comprising 34 members representing WHO Member States, the Executive Board plays a critical role in implementing the decisions of the World Health Assembly and overseeing global health policies and priority programs.

Saudi Arabia's election as Vice-Chair highlights the international community's confidence in the Kingdom's leadership and its active contributions to strengthening global health systems and promoting public health initiatives worldwide.

The Saudi delegation to the session was led by Deputy Minister of Health for International Cooperation, Mr. Rakan bin Khalid bin Daheish, representing Minister of Health H.E. Fahad Abdulrahman AlJalajel. The delegation reaffirmed Saudi Arabia's commitment to advancing international cooperation, supporting WHO initiatives, and working towards a more sustainable and resilient global health future.
