The healthcare system concluded the first "Walk 30" League, which witnessed a significant turnout all over the Kingdom. This initiative aims to promote preventative health and encourage adopting a more vibrant and active lifestyle.
This event is in line with the objectives of the Health Sector Transformation Program, which stems from the Kingdom's Vision 2030. The program aims to raise life expectancy to 80 years, build a "vibrant healthy society", and promote the principle of health in all policies. Several government agencies contribute to this by facilitating an active lifestyle through initiatives and events and providing suitable walking areas such as walkways, parks, and trails.
The league recorded nearly 2 billion steps, with over 44,000 participants participating. Riyadh grabbed the lead with over 10,000 participants, followed by Jeddah with approximately 4,300, and then Medina with over 2,000, amid remarkable attendance from other cities, including Mecca, Dammam, Taif, Najran, Buraidah, Shaqra, and Hofuf.
Participants committed to walking for 30 minutes (8,000 steps) daily, transforming walking into an enjoyable, interactive experience. More than 9,000 teams competed to promote walking as a healthy lifestyle.
The results highlighted the diversity of participating age groups. Women were 56% of the total participants, compared to 44% for men. More than 1,000 racewalkers over the age of 60 participated, including 413 women. This participation reflects that walking is a healthy activity accessible to everyone, regardless of age, affirming the Ministry of Health's role in anchoring the concept of preventive health for all segments of society.
The "Walk 30" League aims to promote preventive health and reduce chronic diseases, such as heart disease and diabetes, while also improving mental health, reducing stress levels, and engaging various segments of society in activities that promote community health.
This campaign showcases the Ministry of Health's commitment to achieving the goals of the Health Sector Transformation Program by launching innovative and sustainable initiatives that contribute to improving quality of life and promoting a culture of healthy living for all.
