6 Hours of Surgery to Save a Child's Heart from Tetralogy of Fallot

Cardiologists in Al-Ahsa Governorate succeeded in saving the life of an infant from tetralogy of Fallot, in a successful complex surgery performed for the first time at the center, which lasted 6 hours, All Praises be to Allah.

The Ministry of Health said that Al-Ahsa Health Cluster confirmed that a medical team at Prince Sultan Center for Cardiac Diseases and Surgery managed to save the life of a 3-month-old baby weighing (3.5) kilograms from a case of tetralogy of Fallot; It is a combination of four heart defects that appear at birth (birth defects), and is considered a critical case.
The medical team confirmed that after conducting clinical, laboratory and radiological examinations, it was found that there are congenital heart defects, which are considered among the life-threatening defects of the patient. Therefore, it was decided to perform a rare and urgent surgical intervention, during which Fallot’s tetralogy was repaired by closing the hole between the ventricles, opening the right ventricular duct while preserving the pulmonary valve. The surgical intervention was performed in two separate operations, after which the patient was transferred to the intensive care unit to follow up on his health condition by doctors and nursing staff until the condition stabilizes and safely be discharged from hospital.
It is noteworthy that Prince Sultan Center for Cardiac Diseases and Surgery provided specialized cardiac health care services, as it performed during the past year 2022 (2180) cardiac catheterization operations, while it performed more than (800) other cardiac surgeries, and the number of beneficiaries who received services from outpatient clinics reached (80,805) beneficiaries.
