720 Patients Served by Lithotripsy Unit at Prince Mutaib Hospital in Sakakah
03 December 2020

The number of patients who benefited from the services provided by the Lithotripsy Unit at Prince Mutaib Hospital (PMH) in Sakakah since the beginning of 2020 has reached 720 patients, said Al-Jouf Health Affairs General Directorate.

In this regard, the General Directorate has clarified that Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL) was the most popular non-surgical procedure. ESWL was conducted to break up stones in the upper part of the urinary system, i.e. kidneys and the upper part of the ureters (taking into account other conditions such as volume and density).

On the other hand, ESWL has limited stone fragmentation results in the lower part of the ureters and the bladder. In such a case, endoscopic intervention would be preferred.
