Utility developer ACWA Power and Thabat Company signed an agreement to build a 100-bed mobile hospital in Madinah to treat Coronavirus patients. The new hospital will be fully equipped with the necessary medical tools and equipment to provide medical treatment and healthcare services to fight COVID-19. The agreement comes in lines with the Ministry of Energy’s directives to take advantage of the capabilities of the Saudi energy system to back the precautionary and preventive measures taken by the competent authorities to combat the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The agreement was signed today (Monday) afternoon under the patronage of the Energy Minister and in the presence of the Health Minster, Dr. Tawfiq bin Fawzan Al-Rabiah. The signatories of the agreement were, Mr. Mohammad Abunayyan, ACWA Power’s chairman and Mr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Osaimi, member of the board of directors of Thabat Co.

On this occasion, Abunayyan said, “I would like to extend my thanks and gratitude to the Ministry of Energy for supporting our community initiatives and enabling us to build a mobile integrated hospital for combating the spread of COVID-19. This initiative is part of our efforts driven by the national energy sector to address the consequences of the pandemic in our beloved Kingdom".

He extended his deep appreciation to Prince Faisal bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, the Governor of Madinah for supporting the initiative and allocating a land for constructing the hospital.

He said that the construction of the hospital, which will be dedicated for treatment of COVID-19 cases, comes in the context of ACWA Power commitment to contribute to collective efforts of the Saudi energy sector to boost the measures taken by MOH, with the aim of providing an integrated dedicated facility to combat the pandemic quickly and efficiently.

“The current circumstances dictate that all of us have to assume their social responsibilities and abide by the directives and decisions of our wise leadership to maintain the health of citizens and residents by mobilizing all efforts and capabilities in integration with the relevant government efforts, particularly the health sectors”, he added.

He stressed that ACWA Power will utilize its internationally-recognized expertise and capabilities in the swift implementation and delivery of projects that require the highest standards of safety and security. Upon completion of construction within 70 days, the assets and contracts will be handed over to the Ministry of Health.

Concluding his statement, Abunayyan appreciated the pivotal role played by Al-Rabiah in enabling the execution of ACWA Power’s initiative. He also praised MOH and its various sectors and bodies for the efforts exerted to implement the precautionary and preventive measures to protect the health and safety of citizens and residents.

It is to be noted that the mobile hospital will be used in different regions as the need arises for treatment of COVID-19 cases, and after the pandemic ends the hospital will be included into MOH’s hospital system.
