In parallel with the World Volunteer Day, to be observed December 5th, 2017, the Minister of Health Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabiah will launch today (Tuesday) evening the campaign (#my_volunteer_health) – #تطوعي_صحة in Arabic – and the health volunteer strategy. The Ministry of Health (MOH) has adopted the campaign in all its health facilities in line with the Saudi Vision 2030. According to MOH, the campaign aims to spread the culture of volunteering amongst its staff through all Health Affairs, medical cities, hospitals and health centers; by implementing volunteer campaigns on the World Volunteer Day, with the participation of facility's leaders and staff.
“1000 of MOH’s staff will participate in the volunteer campaign, marking the World Volunteer Day. 40% of the health facilities will be engaged to develop more than 1000 health volunteer initiatives and score 30,000 volunteer hours. These initiatives will highlight such activities that aim to promote community volunteer engagement.”, stresses MOH.
The health volunteer strategy, according to MOH, is a unified and comprehensive strategy across the Kingdom to develop and activate health volunteer of all health professionals, the public, government, charitable and private sectors, in order to improve health services and deliver top-quality and prompt volunteer health service.
In addition, the strategy aims to activate volunteering in the health sector, taking into consideration priorities of the health sector, and the directives of the Ministry of Labor and Social Development, as well as prioritizing initiatives in terms of (systems – mechanisms - incentives). Also, it seeks to develop a detailed action plan to implement the strategy, to identify different stakeholders and their roles, to gain insights into the present status of health volunteering in the Kingdom, and to determine MOH's roles in health volunteering and to identify practical volunteer models for health practitioners.
