Al-Falih Meets Delegation from the National Committee for Pharmaceutical Industries at Council of Saudi Chambers

His Excellency the Minister of Health, Eng. Khalid bin Abdulaziz Al-Falih, met with a delegation from the National Committee for Pharmaceutical Industries at Council of Saudi Chambers (CSC), headed by Mr. Ishaq Al-Hajri. The meeting was attended by His Excellency the Vice Minister of Health, Mr. Hamad Al-Duweila‘, the Vice President of the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) and a team of the Ministry of Health's (MOH) senior officials, as well as a some members of  the aforementioned Committee.
 
The meeting discussed means to reinforce sales of the national pharmaceutical industries in the Kingdom's markets and areas of further expansion of their activities and localization of manpower.
 
Within the same vein, Al-Falih has confirmed that the MOH is keen to develop the role of the private sector in providing health services in the Kingdom, and that the pharmaceutical industry is a productive field to promote this role. Meanwhile, he called for transferring the pharmaceutical industry technology and the related researches to the Kingdom, as well as expanding localization of these industries to the highest level and attracting national and international investment, in order to contribute to the diversification of economy and achieving national drug security.
 
He also highlighted the need to provide the best opportunities for academic qualification and technical training for Saudi youth to be the pillar of this industry and the reason for its success.
 
Moreover, Al-Falih pointed out that the development of the pharmaceutical industries in the Kingdom must be on an ambitious basis, which is not limited to meeting the needs of the Kingdom only, but also having a strong and competitive presence at the international level. He also lauded the successes of many drugs manufacturers in the kingdom, in terms of their competition with other companies and exporting drugs to many countries in the region and even to the developed countries in Europe and the United States. He underlined the aspirations of the wise leadership of the Kingdom to diversify the Saudi economy and enhance the role of the youth in the economic and industrial fields impose upon us the responsibility to move quickly and firmly in such promising field.    
 
The meeting discussed the areas of increasing coordination between the National Committee and the MOH in the fields of drug provision and removing obstacles facing the industries. Al-Falih emphasized that the MOH will always give priority to the national product as long as the required specifications are met and competitive prices are submitted. He reiterated the importance of raising the ratio of Saudization in this industry.  
 
On the other hand, the members of the National Committee for Pharmaceutical Industries have expressed their appreciation for holding such meeting and the Minister of Health's support for this industry and his keenness for its expansion and prosperity. Besides, the Committee’s members underlined its keenness to develop and expand this industry.
