An Impressive Participation by the Bahraini Minister of Health in the Mass Gathering Medicine Conference
22 September 2013
There is consensus that the participation of His Excellency the Bahraini Minister of Health, Sadik Abdulkarim al-Shehabi, in the second International Conference for Mass Gathering Medicine, which has witnessed considerable turnout of experts specialized in human agglomerations, has been extraordinarily effective and impressive. Mr. al-Shehabi reiterated the importance of training and educating health practitioners in the field of mass medicine. Meanwhile, while being in direct and vigorous contact with journalists, he called for backing the countries' efforts aimed at developing mass medicine. He also called on mass media to assume its indispensable role in health awareness and education, and diffusion of essential authenticated information about the diseases.

“I would like to make known that not a case of Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) has been detected in Bahrain since its emergence,” said Mr. al-Shehabi. “And there is rigorous coordination between the health authorities of the two brotherly countries in this regard, and close follow-up, along with providing the necessary awareness of the disease.”

Mr. al-Shehabi made these press statements within the framework of his impressive participation in the second International Conference for Mass Gathering Medicine, which kicked off yesterday (Saturday) under the generous auspices of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, may Allah protect him. Al-Shehabi was quoted as saying, “The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia takes the lead of mass gathering medicine, and plays a pioneering role in its development. The conference is organized for the second consecutive time at the Kingdom, in conjunction with the Hajj and Umrah events, which take place in a limited period of time, during which enormously big agglomerations come together at a confined place. Hence comes the importance of mass gathering medicine. And it was for this reason that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has embarked on training its health practitioners on this vigorous, pivotal medical specialty.”

Furthermore, the Bahraini Minister of Health underscored the importance of consolidating countries' efforts meant to control and combat diseases. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has already managed to mobilize support for the continuation of this conference on a yearly basis.

It is noteworthy, Mr. Sadik Abdulkarim al-Shehabi is leading the Bahraini delegation participating in the International Conference for Mass Gathering Medicine, held in Riyadh. On the sidelines of the Conference, he holds bilateral talks with a number of the ministers and heads of delegations, with the aim of coordination and consultation on how to make success of the Conference, and come up with recommendations that culminate the efforts concerted in the mass medicine domain.
