(MOH): 4 Radiation Protection Units to be Established

On Sunday morning, in the Ministry of Heath’s Training Center, the General Director of the Environmental and Occupational Health Department, Mr. Falah bin Fahad Al-Mazrou inaugruated the advanced training course in Nuclear Medicine. The course, which will last for three days, is organized by the Radiation Protection Department in cooperation with the MOH General Administration of Training and Scholarship.
 
Mr Al-Mazrou spoke concerning the developmental stages that will be witnessed in the Radiation Protection Department as well as centers in the region. This may include official bodies or employees. He mentioned that 4 radiation protection units are currently being established in Jeddah, the Eastern Region, Qassim, and Asir. He also, spoke about the various incentives for employees, such as linking the distinction award with obtaining a radiation protection license.
 
Moreover, Mr. Al-Mazrou stressed the importance of trainees benefiting from the course so as to be competent in the field of radiation protection, and quality assurance in nuclear medicine and Molecular Imaging departments. This would enable them to keep up with 80% of the Radiation Protection Department strategy.
 It is worth mentioning that the course aims to develop the abilities of trainees across the Kingdom so they can contribute in evaluating work in such departments. The scheme aims to provide quality centers of high efficiency that ensure the continuity of protective, occupational radiation protection programs in the MOH facilities. 
Consultants and experts in nuclear medicine and Molecular Imaging are scheduled to participate in this course, as well as radiation protection units from King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center. Participants also include the Riyadh Armed Forces Hospital, the Radiation Protection Unit in the Ministry of Health, specialist doctors, radiation protection officials and professionals from various regions of the Kingdom. 15 hours of training has been allocated for the course.
