His Excellency the Minister of Health, Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Rabeeah, has received in his office at MOH Headquarters Dr. Alaa Alwan, on the occasion of designating him as the WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean Region, succeeding Dr. Hussain Gezairy.
At the beginning of the meeting, His Excellency Dr. Al- Rabeeah welcomed Dr. Alwan, congratulating him on winning the election of WHO Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean Region, and wishing him and the WHO great success in serving the region.
In a press release, Dr. Alwan stated after his meeting with the Minister of Health, Dr. Al-Rabeeah that this is the first visit to the Eastern Mediterranean Region. The meeting focused on discussing ways of cooperation between the WHO and other countries of the region, the issues related to health development in the region, and how to strengthen technical support, health systems and health informatics, in addition to combating communicable and chronic diseases, and preparing for health emergencies.
Moreover, Dr. Alwan stated that the Kingdom plays a leading role in supporting the objectives of the World Health Organization. "The Kingdom is leading the process of health development, playing a great role in promoting and improving health in the countries of the region. Therefore, meeting the Saudi Minister of Health was so important for me,” Alwan said.
