MOH Statement on Allegations of Stopping Referral to Private Hospitals
15 February 2016
Regarding the incorrect news that the Ministry of Health (MOH) stopped referring patients to private hospitals and set a maximum cost paid by the government for those referred to private hospitals, the Ministry would like to highlight that providing healthcare to citizens, wherever they are around the Kingdom, comes on top of its duties and responsibilities. Hence, the Ministry will not hesitate to take any actions necessary to ensure providing such healthcare from any other sources, in case of its non-availability at the MOH health facilities. Besides, the Ministry has underscored that it will continue referring patients for treatment at private hospitals inside or outside the Kingdom, in case of the lack of capability to accommodate those patients at its facilities, or the non-availability of the required service there.

Within the same vein, the MOH clarified that it did not absolutely set a maximum cost of treatment, but it limited the cost of ordinary medical services, such as the cost of a one-day stay in the hospital, with an average, commensurate with the actual cost of this service, and the common prices offered by those hospitals to the referred patients.

Furthermore, the Ministry has underlined that the Referral to Private Hospital System has full flexibility and facilities; with a view to considering the patient condition, meanwhile ensuring the provision of health services as fast as possible.

Finally, the MOH would like to reiterate that it is pleased to receive any of citizens' enquiries regarding its services, via the channels mentioned on its Portal; in order to provide them with the accurate and reliable information.
