The Second Annual Residents Day and Scientific Dental Board Meetings were held concurrently last Thursday, May 5, 2011, in the Prince Sultan Hall of the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties in the Diplomatic Quarter, Riyadh. The meetingwas hostedby the Ministry of Health’s Deputy Minister of Executive Affairs, Dr. Mansour Al Hawasi.
The first session included an opening lecture by Dr. Sulaiman Al Emran. The second lecture, entitled “Towards Excellence in Postgraduate Education,” was delivered by the Chairman of the Scientific Dental Board Committee, Dr. Saud Orfali.
Dr. Al Hawasi delivered the third lecture, which highlighted the Ministry of Health’s role in promoting postgraduate dental education. Sixteen residents from eight different specialties also introduced their medical research and clinical cases to theJury panel. The first place winner was Dr. Deena Ameen the Oral Surgery and Maxillofacial Program; she received a SR 10,000 grant. Naser Al Asiri, also from the Oral Surgery and Maxillofacial Program, was the second place winner, and received a SR 7,000 grant.In third place, and the winner of a SR 5,000 grant, was Dr. Mohammed AL Zahrani, who is specializing in Endodontic Therapy.
