MOH Inactivate the Phased Plan of Controlling Drug Dispensing
02 April 2011
During a workshop for medical license e-transaction procedures, which took place from 28th to 30th March 2011 in Riyadh, Deputy Minister of Executive Affairs, Dr. Mansour Bin Naser Al Hawasi, detailed the Ministry’s progress in implementing an e-transaction system for medical licensing and drug-dispensing for healthcare beneficiaries, including MOH patients and private health sector investors. Dr. Al Hawasi said that this initiative resulted from the Ministry’s commitment to e-transactions, under the guidance of HE Minister of Health, Dr. Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz Al Rabeeah.

According to Dr. Hawasi, the Ministry of Health is dedicated to regulating drug dispensing restrictions, overseeing health service licensing in private sectors and providing high-quality medical and pharmacy licensing services.
General Manager of Medical Licensing in the Ministry, Dr. Ali Al Zawawi, stated that the purpose of the workshop was to outline e-transaction procedures for pharmacy and medical license departments in the Kingdom.  The use of the e-transaction system will facilitate and monitor the pharmacy and private healthcare sector investors’ work by reducing the administrative load for medical license employees, thus allowing them to focus on more important tasks. In addition, the system will help standardize procedures and create a detailed Kingdomwide licensing database for the pharmacy and private healthcare sectors.

He also added that the workshop recommended implementing e-transactions procedures for medical licensing, developing a unified manual for licensing departments in the Kingdom and setting up a phased plan for controlling the dispensing of drugs without prescriptions.
Dr. Ahmed Al Jedie’, Manager of Pharmaceutical Services at King Faisal Specialized Hospital, also delivered a lecture about drug dispensing without prescriptions and its effect on health and the economy. At the end of the workshop, pharmacy and medical license directors discussed with Dr. Al Hawasi the challenges they face, along with possible solutions.
