WHO Director-General, Dr. Margaret Chan, noted the efforts and health services provided by the Saudi government to in need and afflicted countries.The kingdom is considered the most involved country in providing such humanitarian aids. She also pointed out the Kingdom's experience in providing its preventative and curative services in Hajj and Umra seasons through the past years.
She mentioned that WHO is welling to support the Kingdom in the field of primary health care, improve capabilities of specialists in mother and child health program, and allow health workforce to work in the organization, and give them a chance to acquire its expertise.
This was stated in press statements after her meeting with Minister of Health, Dr. Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz AL Rabeeah, which was attended by the Regional Director of WHO for the Middle East, Dr. Hussain AL Jazaeri, and a number of Ministry of Health officials. The Minister welcomed Dr. Margaret and her delegate wishing her a nice time in the Kingdom.
Dr. Margaret described Ministry of Health national project for complete and comprehensive health care as a comprehensive project and an extraction of developed countries experiences. She said "It's a powerful and comprehensive project and considered a unique health system once applied". The Minister and Dr. Margaret discussed during the meeting a number of important topics including how to support the Minister of Health efforts toward having a kingdom wide comprehensive e-health that aims to have a unified health file for each patient in all health providers.
They've also discussed the importance of having a detecting system to follow health indicators, cooperating with WHO in this field, providing technical support to the initial health care that should be launched by MOH in the beginning of 2011 and benefiting from the quality and accreditation programs of healthcare providers as a first step.
Moreover, Dr. Margaret will visit a number of healthcare providers in Riyadh tomorrow as well as meeting with The Saudi Food and Drug Authority.
