The Deputy Minister of Health for Planning and Development Dr. Obeid bin Salman Al-Obeid has chaired the third meeting of diabetes combating plan coordinators on Wednesday July 9, 2008. The meeting was held at the MOH Grand Meeting Hall and attended by the Assistant Deputy Minister of Health for Preventive Medicine Dr. Khalid Al-Zahrani, Prof. Jaco Thomilito from WHO and Prof. Hashim Al-Ali, a diabetes combating expert at WHO.
Addressing the meeting, Dr. Obeid said diabetes and its complications constitute one of the major problems confronting MOH. "MOH has been exerting continuous efforts for combating the disease through an ambitious plan launched 10 years ago", he said.
Hailing the experience of the two WHO representatives attending the meeting, Dr. Al-Obeid said they have clear concepts and plans for controlling the disease as they have participated in combating the disease in a number of countries in Europe, Asia, and the Arab world.
The meeting reviewed a video presentation showing the details of the comprehensive national campaign for enlightening against diabetes and its complications. The two WHO experts gave brief notes on diabetes and its combating experiments. The meeting has been attended by more than 20 coordinators from MOH and the directorates of health affairs.
