Great attendance at Granada Mall Asthma Drugs Exhibition
04 May 2008
The Saudi Pharmaceutical Society has accomplished the activities of the asthma patients' educational exhibition held at Granada Mall during weekend vacation.

The activities will continue this week by informing patients on the ways of using asthma drugs at a number of government hospitals. A similar exhibition will be organized at the Faisaliyah Mall during the period from Wednesday to Friday (from 5:00pm to 10:00pm each day).

The asthma educational exhibition aims at providing basic information on asthma and its drugs within a number of stages:
  • In the first stage the patient is provided information on asthma and its major causes and irritants.
  • In the second stage the patient is informed on drugs used in asthma treatment.
  • In the third stage the patient is informed on the correct way of using asthma drugs.
  • In the fourth stage the patient meets a specialized pharmacist for any enquires.
During the exhibition, about 20 thousand educational pamphlets have been distributed, in addition to an informative CD and a number of promotional and educational gifts. T shirts carrying signatures of international football players captains Saad Al-Harithi and Yasser Al-Qahtani have also been distributed.

About 4000 visitors attended the exhibition during the first three days. 300 consultations have been provided to patients who have visited the exhibition with their drugs. Some preliminary surveys have shown that a large percentage of patients don’t know the correct way of using asthma drugs. They even don’t know some basic information about the drugs, such as drug names, compositions, or treatment period. Many patients were afraid of using cortisone due to some misconceptions about cortizone containing drugs. The participant pharmacists exerted great efforts for correcting such misconceptions.
