MOH launches a comprehensive campaign for controlling asthma

In line with the MOH initiatives of setting health programs aiming at preventing disease prevalence in the Kingdom, the Minister of Health Dr. Hamad Al-Mane will launch today Saturday 27/04/1429, 03/05/2008, at Mariot Hotel in Riyadh, the National Program for Full Control of Asthma by 2020, said MOH Director General of Medical Supply Dr. Khalid bin Abdul Rahman Al-Hussain.
 
He said the program is launched on the basis of a large scale study carried out by MOH in coordination with Glasco Smith Co. for determining the extent of threaten imposed by the disease. The study has yielded practical results which will assist in reaching full control of the disease.
 
Considering the magnitude of the problem, MOH has made available the best treatments for the disease. A comprehensive plan for enlightening people on the risks imposed has been set for explaining the factors involved and ways of prevention, within an overall strategy for controlling the disease.
 
According to Dr. Hussain, MOH has allotted the month of May for starting a national campaign for controlling the disease in coincidence with the celebrations of World Asthma Day , notifying that the MOH study has shown that about 68% of Asthma patients suffer from the inability of managing the disease.
 
"The National Program for Asthma Control is a national initiative in which all sectors of the population will participate", he said. "It aims at reaching full control of the disease by 2020 through a far reaching plan set by MOH". 
 
He urged the media to assist in protecting the community against the disease through activating the awareness and educational role of the plan.
 
He said MOH has set a plan for opening 40 specialized clinics within the current year. Distributed in the different parts of the Kingdom the clinics will provide the best specialized services against asthma.
