24 November 2007
Subsequent to what have been issued by MOH on the situation of the avian flue epidemic in Riyadh, MOH would like to confirm that all workers dealing with the infected birds (474 workers) have been medically scrutinized by the MOH medical prevention teams in Riyadh for identifying potential sources of infection. The workers have been examined and necessary protective treatment offered. MOH would like to confirm that no human avian flue cases have been registered.

MOH would like also to inform that the disease does transmit among human beings. They rather transmit from living or dead infected birds to humans in some few cases through direct contact. The overall cases of human infections throughout the world is confined to only 335 cases, a fact indicating the rarity of cases transmitted through direct contact.
