Riyadh Declaration on diabetes economics will be submitted t

The Royal Court has issued its approval whereby Her Highness the wife of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Princess Hussah bint Tarrad Al-Shalan will sponsor a women's health symposium to be convened within the activities of the GCC Health Economics Conference, which will be organized by the Executive Bureau of the GCC Council of Health Ministries in cooperation with a number of health entities inside and outside the Kingdom, said Dr. Tawfeeq Khoja, the Director General of  the Executive Bureau of the GCC Council of Health Ministries and Head of the conference's High Supervisory Committee.
 
He said the symposium will deal with the role of women in the GCC countries in alleviating the sufferings of diabetic patients. Convened under the title "Enabling Women to have Effective Role in the Treatment Measurements Concerning Diabetics", the symposium will be attended by a host of notable women, including the Director of Diabetes Center at KFMC Dr. Safiya Al-Shirbini, the Director of Internal Medicine at KAMC Dr. Afaf Al-Shammari, and the Director of the Health, Nutrition, and Population Sector, MENA, World Bank Dr. Akiko Myda.
 
He valued the royal approval, denoting that it represents the concern paid to and support offered to the efforts of joint Gulf health works, improving health services, and achieving the best standards of health prosperity for the benefit of Gulf citizens. 
 
According to Dr. Khoja, the symposium will be convened in the evening of Sunday 23/10/2007, at King Faisal Hall, Riyadh Continental Hotel. It is convened within the activities of the GCC Health Economics Conference, which will be hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during the period from Nov 3 to Nov 5, 2007.
 
He said the conference aims at casting light on the medical and social aspects of the economics of diabetes at both regional and international levels. It also aims at bringing into view the great challenges imposed by diabetes on health systems and health care costs. The Riyadh Declaration, which is expected to be announced by the final session of the conference, will be a guide for controlling diabetes at both national and GCC levels. It will be submitted to the United Nations to be preserved as an official UN document.
