A Training Course and a Workshop on “Therapeutic Drug Monitoring"
Poison Control and Forensic Chemistry Centers General Department has announced a training course and workshop on "Therapeutic Drug Monitoring", which will be held for five days, starting from 1st Sept. 2013 ( corresponding to 25th Shawwal 1434), at the Poison Control and Forensic Chemistry Center in Dammam. The workshop aims at clarifying and identifying the basic strategies of therapeutic drug monitoring.
 
“Detailed” Awareness Objectives of the Training Course:
  1. Identifying the therapeutic drug monitoring and the main objectives resulting from the quantification of the drug.
  2. Discussing the concept of “Drug Half-Life”, and the extent of its clinical benefit.
  3. Adopting the basic characteristics of the drugs depending on the therapeutic monitoring.
  4. Discussing the Laboratory means through which therapeutic drug monitoring can be carried out.
  5. Defining the genetic pharmacology and its difference of the pharmaceutical dynamism.
  6. Clarifying the clinical benefit of cytochrome P450 and the feasibility of its laboratory usage.
 
Skills Expected to Be Acquired by the End of the Training Course:
  1. Acquiring the ability to understand the general basics of therapeutic drug monitoring.
  2. Understanding the clinical benefits of the therapeutic drug half-life in determining the therapeutic doses.
  3. Recognizing the medicines based on the continuous therapeutic follow-up.
  4. Understanding the interpretations of the applicable scientific studies to the laboratorial tests of the therapeutic drug monitoring methods.
  5. Understanding the effects of metabolic processes effects on the levels of the monitored therapeutic drugs.
  6. Acquiring the ability to follow up the levels of therapeutic drugs and the ways of determining the doses.
