Overview:
Healthy marriage aims to achieve health, psychological, and social compatibility between spouses to protect couples and their future children from communicable diseases and to support the birth of healthy generations. In this context, the Government of Saudi Arabia has placed strong emphasis on building healthy generations through the Healthy Marriage Program.
The program requires both parties to a marriage contract to submit a premarital medical examination certificate as a prerequisite for marriage documentation, while leaving the decision to proceed with the marriage to the couple.
Premarital screening is conducted to detect certain hereditary blood disorders, such as sickle cell anemia and thalassemia, as well as communicable diseases including hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV/AIDS. The program provides medical counseling on the likelihood of disease transmission to the partner or future children and supports couples in planning a healthy family.
Objectives:
- Raising awareness of the importance of early premarital screening to establish a healthy family and ensure the birth of healthy children.
Target Groups:
- Individuals planning to get married.
- Families affected by hereditary blood disorders.
- University students.
