World Prematurity Day
Introduction:
World Prematurity Day is observed this year on Thursday, November 17th, 2016, and was approved as a world day of premature babies in 2011.
 
Facts:
Around 15 million babies are born prematurely each year that is 1 in 10 babies born worldwide. According to world statistics the number of premature babies in the Kingdom is estimated at 60,000 a year, 15,000 of them are in need of special medical care in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) immediately after birth, as well as medical follow-up and special care during their early years. Most of the preemies health problems are the results of preterm birth and before full development of their body organs that requires medical assistance with devices and drugs to overcome this period, a matter which may cause complications that may impact present and future life of the baby.

Objectives of the World Prematurity Day:
To raise awareness of health problems that may face the preemies and complications of preterm births and means to prevent them. In addition to raising awareness of pregnancy follow-up and avoiding premature birth.
