Smoking Control

Nicotine Inhaler

How to Use:

         •  Insert the nicotine cartridge properly into the outer mouthpiece.

    • Place the device in your mouth and take several short, frequent puffs from the inhaler.
    • Use the nicotine oral inhaler at the prescribed dosage, as directed by your healthcare provider, to help control cigarette cravings.
    • Do not use more than 16 cartridges per day.

Usage Instructions:

    • The inhaler is available by prescription from a healthcare provider.
    • Although the nicotine oral inhaler may resemble a cigarette, it is used differently.
    • It is not used like traditional asthma inhalers but requires a different method.
    • The nicotine inhaler consists of an outer mouthpiece and a plastic cartridge inside that contains nicotine.
    • Nicotine is released into the mouth via the device; it should not be fully inhaled into the lungs but retained in the mouth and throat briefly.
    • Most of the nicotine deposits in the mouth and throat, resulting in slower absorption compared to smoking a cigarette.
    • Mouth or throat irritation is common, especially at the beginning.
    • Do not eat or drink for 15 minutes before or during use.

Warnings to Consider When Using:

    • After use, ensure the device is locked and stored out of reach of children and pets.
    • When the cartridge is empty, dispose of it immediately in a secure trash bin inaccessible to children or pets.
    • In case of accidental use or ingestion by children, contact Poison Control immediately.
    • The nicotine inhaler has not been specifically studied in people with asthma or chronic lung disease.
    • Nicotine is an airway irritant; therefore, alternative forms of nicotine replacement may be more suitable for patients with severe asthma.
    • Consult a healthcare provider before using the nicotine inhaler if you have medical conditions such as: heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, stomach ulcers, or kidney/liver dysfunction.
    • Keep the device and cartridges away from children and pets, as the nicotine content may be harmful if accidentally ingested.

Stop using the inhaler and contact Poison Control or seek emergency care if signs of nicotine overdose appear, such as:

    • Pale skin and cold sweating
    • Nausea, vomiting, excessive salivation
    • Abdominal pain and diarrhea
    • Headache, dizziness, visual or auditory disturbances
    • Tremors, mental confusion, and weakness
    • Severe overdose may lead to low blood pressure, respiratory failure, and in extreme cases, seizures followed by death due to peripheral or central respiratory paralysis, or cardiac failure.
