Under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, May Allah protect him, the Kingdom will host the 4th Global Ministerial Summit on Patient Safety in Jeddah next month (March). During the summit, over 50 health ministers from around the world will discuss 7 patient safety-related topics, including an important one on digital health for patient safety. Experts will discuss the digital transformation for health care, its impact on providing services securely, and its potential contribution to increasing investments over the coming years. The topics also include Patient Safety Policy, focusing on the impact and importance of strong legislation in developing policies and procedures that ensure patient safety.
It is noted that patient safety is one of the top priorities and a cornerstone for the healthcare services system. Besides, the Saudi Patient Safety Center (SPSC) is one of the health system initiatives to improve the healthcare, and comes in implementation of one of the most important initiatives of the National Transformation Program (NTP) in the health sector. The center represents a national reference for all patient safety-related issues and medical errors reductions, and works to develop the national strategy for patient safety and to ensure its harmony with the NTP’s initiatives in the health sector.
It is worth mentioning that this summit, which will be held from March 2nd to 3rd, 2019 in Jeddah, is the first-of-its-kind in the Kingdom and one of the most important initiatives on patient safety at the international level, with the participation of health ministers from 50 countries, WHO Director-General, and experts and specialists in safety filed, particularly in patient safety.
