Saudi Arabia’s healthcare sector has reinforced its global standing through milestone achievements, including the accreditation of 16 Healthy Cities. Among them, Jeddah and Madinah have become the first million-population cities in the Middle East to earn the World Health Organization’s “Healthy City” designation, a milestone that underscores the Ministry of Health’s success, through its Healthy Cities Program, in improving quality of life in collaboration with governmental and community partners. The program applies over 80 international standards across nine key areas covering health, development, and sustainability.
The Kingdom has also made notable advances in medical research and innovation. A pioneering study by King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center on robotic liver transplantation was ranked among the world’s top 10 most impactful studies of 2024 by the American Society of Transplantation. Furthermore, seven Saudi hospitals were listed in Brand Finance’s 2025 ranking of the world’s top 250 hospitals, reflecting the Kingdom’s robust healthcare infrastructure, global competitiveness, and the tangible improvements in service quality and efficiency.
These accomplishments align with Saudi Vision 2030 goals, advancing the “Vibrant Society” pillar to enhance quality of life, and the “Thriving Economy” pillar to foster innovation and scientific research. According to the Ministry of Health, such achievements are the result of unified efforts across the healthcare system and multiple sectors, positioning the Kingdom as a regional hub and a global destination for advanced medical care
