25 August 2022

The Ministry of Health (MOH) participates in the activities of the World Field Epidemiology Day, which is celebrated every year on September 7th.

The field epidemiology program at MOH is reckoned the first program in the Middle East and the seventh at the global level. It was launched in 1989 in collaboration with the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and King Saud University’s College of Medicine in Riyadh. It provides training programs of different levels, including short-term courses and postgraduate programs in collaboration with several parties. It receives trainees from all over the Kingdom, as well Arab Gulf states.

The program aims at building epidemiological capacities within the public health sector of MOH and its partners, especially at the regional level, by means of enhancing public health surveillance, and improving detection, investigation, outbreak response and effective communication. It also aims at improving the availability and use of data for decision-making purposes, both during normal conditions or crises.
