Najran Health Affairs General Directorate has announced the operation of the Endoscopy Unit at the Maternity and Children Hospital, within the framework of its expansion plans to provide specialized treatment services for children in the region. The endoscopy unit was equipped with the latest modern medical equipment, and specialized staff was recruited. This would make performing diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopes possible, without referring patients to hospitals outside the region.
The hospital’s medical team has managed to perform an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy under general anesthesia for an 11-year-old child, who had chronic difficulty swallowing. Tissue biopsies from the child have shown inflammation in the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum. The child received the necessary treatment and left the hospital in good health.
Moreover, upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and another colonoscopy were performed on a 10-year-old girl under general anesthesia, with multiple biopsies taken. She suffers from chronic diarrhea and is underweight. The samples were sent to the tissue laboratory at King Khalid Hospital for study.
