Al-Baha: MOH Saves a Child from Paraplegia
16 August 2017
A joint team of thoracic and neurosurgeons of King Fahd Hospital - Al-Baha has successfully done the first-of-its-kind surgery in Southern Region for a 14-year-old child, using cutting-edge technologies including thoracic laparoscope and surgical endoscopes, to stabilize vertebrae through the patient's chest. Classified as high-risk surgery, this type is done only in highly equipped specialized hospitals.

The child had a traffic accident, resulting in thoracic vertebrae fracture and weakened lower limbs. The joint team checked the child and recommended an immediate surgical intervention to repair the fractured vertebrae, to release the pressure on the spinal cord, and to stabilize the vertebrae using thoracic laparoscope and surgical endoscopes.

Remarkably, King Fahd Hospital - Al-Baha has become the region's reference hospital receiving critical and sophisticated cases, thanks to MOH's ongoing support and enhancement of medical services across all regions to save patients the burden of travelling.
