20 May 2014
His Excellency the Saudi Vice Minister of Health for Planning and Development Dr. Mohamed Khoshaim met today with the Czech Vice Minister of Health and his accompanying delegation, now visiting the Kingdom, at the ministerial office in Riyadh. During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to bolster bilateral relations in the health domain, in such a manner that allows benefitting from the expertise and experiences of the sisterly state.

Dr. Khoshaim pointed out that this meeting comes on the sidelines of the Czech delegation's participation in the Saudi Health Conference and Exhibition 2014, noting that talks with the Czech delegation touched upon a host of issues, including cooperation in the health domain and ways to expand cooperation with the hospitals and universities there. Valuing its progress in the health sector, Dr. Khoshaim said the Czech Republic still has more to present in the fields of nursing, laboratory, virology, and medical instrumentations. "The Czech Republic is currently involved in relations with many of the Middle East countries, especially Bahrain, Jordan and Saudi Arabia," said Dr. Khoshaim.

He added that there are about 60 Saudi students now studying medicine in the Czech capital city of Prague. "Also, there are about 600 fe/male Czech physicians of different health specialties working in a wide range of Saudi hospitals," Dr. Khoshaim said, describing the Saudi-Czech relations as good and promising. Speaking about the Czech delegation's participation in the Saudi Health Exhibition and Conference 2014 now held at Riyadh Exhibitions Company premises, Dr. Khoshaim said it comes in the wake of a similar tour paid by a well-placed Saudi health delegation to Prague earlier.

It is worth mentioning that many foreign states are participating in this event, which was inaugurated by His Royal Highness the Governor of Riyadh, Prince Turki bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in the presence of a number of ambassadors to the Kingdom.

Dr. Khoshaim said, "The Czech Republic is participating with a huge pavilion in the exhibition," noting that the pavilion comprises many advanced medical devices, especially its comfortable, big and well-industrialized beds which resemble global brands, along with other medical instrumentation. "We think of referring the Saudi patients with fractures to the Czech Republic for treatment and rehabilitation there due to the latter's long experience in this domain," Dr. Khoshaim concluded.

It is noteworthy that Dr. Mohamed Khoshaim met also with another Portuguese delegation on the sidelines of the Saudi Health Exhibition and Conference 2014. The delegation is headed by the Portuguese Assistant Minister of Health Fernando Leal da Costa. They discussed, during their meeting, a number of critical issues, atop of which are cooperation in the health sector and expansion of talks between the two states.
